Team Perth on Tour - Fremantle Markets

In this VLOG the Perth Team are taking a tour of the Famous Fremantle Markets with our special guest/friend and fellow Instructor Chrisoula from Wollongong NSW. We take you on a tour of these special markets and show you the different aspects of what makes these markets so beautiful and unique.

HISTORY- The Fremantle Market Hall laid their foundation in Fremantle, Perth WA on the 6th of November 1897 and the first visitors would arrive by horse and carriage WOW! The building functioned as a wholesale food and produce market until the 1950's and would no doubt have been an eclectic mix of fresh produce, reflective of the many migrants who flocked to the Port City of Fremantle. The building eventually became a packing and distribution centre until the early 1970's before undergoing a complete restoration in 1975 by the Fremantle City Council. The Fremantle Markets was officially added to the Register of Heritage Places in November of that year. Step inside the Fremantle Markets and enjoy the distinctive atmosphere of over a hundred years of vibrant culture and heritage. Listen carefully and you just might hear the horse and carts of yesteryear, arriving at the markets full to the brim of fresh fruit and vegetables. Today we step inside and we now see, boasting over 150 stalls, each as unique as the next, the Fremantle Markets are a must-see for locals and tourists alike.

FRESH LOCAL PRODUCE- There is a huge selection of local produce at Fremantle Markets, sourced from local growers. Our fruit and vegetables are fresh and healthy, with many organically grown. Locals and tourists come every weekend to source the best of the best at these markets alone.

INDIGENOUS & INDEPENDENT PRODUCTS- One of the best things about Fremantle Markets is its dedication to promoting indigenous and independent art and products. The items sold by many of our vendors are original and created by local independent artisans, businesses and crafters. Fremantle Markets is also keen to support ethically sourced indigenous art. For example, our trader, True Blue, sells authentic Aboriginal art, artefacts, boomerangs, didgeridoos and souvenirs by local and Western Australian aboriginal artists, with proceeds of sales going directly to the artists.

MUSIC & ATMOSPHERE- Fremantle Markets is a launching pad for many successful artists, and who knows, maybe you’ll get to hear the next John Butler on your next visit. Our buskers are legendary and provide one of the many atmospheric aspects that make the market so great. There is a unique feeling of liveliness and artistry within Fremantle Markets, aided by our diverse array of live music and performances. So grab a good coffee or beer, and enjoy!

Hope you enjoy our VLOG and next time you are in PERTH Western Australia, head to Fremantle and discover the world of these amazing Markets!
